Terms and Conditions
This Agreement is made between Barbarella Camper Hire and the person / persons signing to accept these Terms and Conditions (thereafter called the hirer).
1. Driver Requirements
Drivers must be a minimum of 25 years old, and hold a full driver’s license, held for minimum of two years. We request that you bring your driving license and two forms of identity including proof of current permanent address. This could be a bank statement or a utility bill etc.
We require a DVLA check for each driver prior to collection. This can be found on the following link https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
Please send us the ‘check code’ it provides you and last 8 digits of your driving licence number.
The driver must meet the insurance criteria including no disqualifications in the last 10 years and to have no more than 6 points on the current driving license.
Please note that additional drivers incur an extra charge of £25 per driver.
The agreement and hire contract and vehicle check will be carried out on the day when you collect Barbarella.
Unlimited miles in England. The renter may request details of prosed mileage prior to booking and destination plans.
All insurance and RAC (breakdown cover) for 1 main driver. A copy of the insurance and RAC documents are in a folder in the van.
A full tank of diesel fuel.
Onboard equipment.
For the date of hire we require a £500 security deposit to cover any damages, breakages and insurance excess. We would need this at least 24 hours prior to the collection. Similarly, a £1000 fully refundable deposit is required for European travel.
This will be returned to you within 5 days of the vehicle being returned on these conditions:
In the event any damage has been caused to the vehicle and/or its equipment please notify us as soon as possible and no later than the return handover.
If you have a road traffic collision you must notify us immediately or as soon as is possible prior to vehicle return.
4. Insurance:
Standard excess is £500 (£1000 for European travel) and in the event of any damage to either the vehicle or to a third party property, the hirer will be liable for the first £500 (or £1000).
The hirer is provided with a fully comprehensive insurance for the duration of the hire period only. (only for drivers that have supplied license details that have been checked by us and pre-arranged, allowing someone else to drive the van without prior permission will mean the insurance is invalid. In the event the vehicle is seized by the police due to invalid insurance as outlined above it’s the hirer’s responsibility to pay any charges or fines associated with this.
Insurance is invalidated for any of the reasons below:
If you have previously had insurance declines
Renewal refused and special insurance terms imposed as a result of a claim.
If you had insurance cover cancelled by any insurer.
Have been convicted of an offence whilst driving a motor vehicle or motorcycle and/or had a driving license endorsed or suspended or more than 6 penalty points imposed. Have been involved in more than one fault accident in the last 3 years.
During the booking phase we check the license to meet our insurance criteria – should anything change to the license after the initial check and before the hire date it is the hirer/drivers responsibility to notify Barbarella Camper hire so a further check can be completed to ensure you still meet the criteria.
Please note there is a surcharge of £25 for a second / extra driver.
The hirer will be fully liable for replacement or repair of windscreen or tyre damage.
5.Vehicle collection and return times:
Collection is between 2pm and 3pm and return is between 11am and 12noon. Please contact us with any unavoidable delays. Days out / events are by arrangement at the time of booking. There is a late return charge of £50 per hour (at our discretion) as this impacts the next hirer.
6. Rental restrictions:
No one way rentals.
Strictly no smoking – a £250 valeting charge will be deducted from the security deposit where there is evidence of smoking inside the vehicle.
The number of passengers is limited to the capacity stated in the vehicle specification. In this case 5 persons.
No unauthorized towing.
Our van is not for use at music festivals and it is fitted with a tracker. We reserve the right to cancel the booking should we discover this was the hirer’s intention.
All motoring fines (eg. Speeding/parking fines and tolls) are the hirer’s responsibility.

Strictly no going onto the beach as it can damage the engine.
You should only use diesel fuel.

7. Personal Safety:
We take safety very seriously but please note that it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to ensure the safety of children while in or around the vehicle, particularly while in the pop up roof.
There are three seat belts fitted in the front of the campervan and two seats in the rear.
Do not use the gas stove to heat the van and always have a door/window open when using the stove to cook. The gas cannister must be turned off when finished cooking and driving. Do not use the cooking facilities whilst the van is in motion.
8. Accidents and damage:
Any damage to the interior or the exterior of the hire vehicle will be repaired at the hirer’s cost and be deducted from the security deposit.
The hirer is responsible for any windscreen and tyre damage.
In the event you have caused damage and/or its equipment you must notify us as soon as is feasibly possible.
There is a standard insurance excess of £500 (£1000 for European travel) should you be involved in an accident.
A full report of the incident must be submitted to Barbarella Camperhire within 3 days.
In the unlikely event of a breakdown the vehicle has full breakdown cover provided by RAC. The document details are in the folder in the hire vehicle. If the vehicle cannot be fixed at the roadside there will be an option to be taken to your holiday destination. Should you choose to continue the holiday the RAC will then collect the hirer and bring them to the home destination. Should a breakdown impact your trip a refund may be given by Barbarella Camperhire.
